As an automotive dealer, Murray Dealerships are conscious about reducing our carbon footprint on the environment and continually work on improving the areas where we can cut back on emissions. We support many foundations and give back to programs that support a greener, healthier environment.

More recent examples; the Winnipeg Chevrolet location has just been recognized as an Efficiency Partner by Manitoba Hydro for the recent changes made to be more efficient and environmentally friendly. This dealership converted their lighting system to new energy efficient lights, installed bulk oil, washer and transmission fluid storage tanks (Figure 1) to eliminate more than twelve hundred four litre plastic containers each month as well as cardboard shipping boxes. The dealership has also put in place a recycling program separating metal, aluminum and plastics. This dealership even ensures that their cleaners are using environmentally friendly cleaning products.

The Murray dealership in Brandon has switched to energy efficient lighting in both their reconditioning centre and quick lube drive thru. They too have made use of bulk oil and washer fluid. They also recycle paper, gun wash from the car wash bays, batteries, tires, toner cartridges and ink cartridges, sheet metal and metal objects, cardboard, oil fluids, oil filters, oil containers if any individual and of course drink cans plastic containers etc.

Murray Hyundai is the most environmentally friendly dealership in North America with Geothermal heating and air system, heat recovery ventilation and solar control glass windows in the showroom. In 2005, our Dauphin dealership incorporated a geothermal heating and cooling system in their building in effort to reduce their imprint on the environment and save on long term utility costs.

Other ways that the group has made effort to lessen our impact on the environment:

• Launched e-marketing campaigns to engage our consumers and decrease paper products frequently used in print advertising, newsletters and direct mail campaigns.
• Launched the Quit Smoking program designed to help employees and their family members live a smoke free life. Murray’s provides support material, help lines and will cover costs of approved “quit smoking” methods reimbursing 50% of their costs immediately, 25% each of the next 2 years that they remain smoke free.
